Rode through no-mans-land only to find that the border was closed and not open for a few hours. When we finally got through it had taken 6 hours and we headed off to Olgly to find somewhere to sleep. The country side was fantastic and we saw the occasional ger off in the distance and camels wandering around.
Got there and met up with 2 Polish guys who were going to camp in the Altay foothills. Got some food and headed up with them. The road up was over fine stone, sand and other slippery stuff. Had a slow 'off' near the top, but everything was fine. I'm sort of getting used to it.
Campsite up in the foothills
Peter, Dave, Lec and Alex
Next morning we headed off to Khovd. The roads were getting worse and Ben zoomed off at his own pace and got himself bogged on the outskirts of a village and we passed not seeing him. Peter, Dave and I continued.
We stopped to wait for Ben but thought that he may be ahead and we all took off. Peter at the rear. When he failed to join us, Dave went back to investigate. Peter's bike had ceased to run. The 3 Dutch guys came by and gave suggestions.
After and hour or so Ben arrived and with bad weather blowing in, Dave and I headed off to Khovd and would wait for a text to see if Peter needed a truck sent out. The roads were getting worse and rain didn't help. The rivers seemed to be rising and we had a few to cross. The crossings were bad enough, but the clay banks were harder to negotiate.
Got a message next morning that the bike was a runner. A coil pick-up had failed, but Peter had a spare. We had time to check out the local 'container' market. Ger kits seemed to be popular, as were the boots. would love a pair, but don't know how often i would get to wear them. About $50 a pair
Cute little girl in the market.
Dave and I walked down the road for a beer..... Roger the Swiss again!
Later in the arvo, Peter turned up after a bugger of a day. Ben had had 4 punctures! He enjoyed his beer.
Giving the bike a once over before the next day's ride.
